First Flower 2016

Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara)

When I went up the mountain to check the springs I saw coltsfoot, the first flowers of spring on Sugar Mountain.

I’ve never seen these at lower altitudes. They seem to be a dizen of the highlands. We didn’t use to have dandelions here until I brought up seeds from lower down and spread them in our fields.

Later the coltsfoot will more to be a very different looking plant that is easily confused with the young burdock.

Outdoors: 24°F/50°F Sunny, 1″ Snow
Tiny Cottage: 56°F/62°F

Daily Spark: I will never give up hope. I am an optimist by definition. The glass is half empty because I drank the other half.
