White Pig Tanning Lotion

White Pig with Sunscreen

I mentioned about the various uses of mud[1, 2] the other day. This sow is showing off her beauty secret. She’s nude, although you might not know it from the thick layer of sunscreen she put on. She’s also pregnant and soon to pop.

The milkweed is for the Monarchs although we have seen none this year nor last. I hear they’re having a hard time between deforestation, pesticides, herbicides, GMOs and what not. Leave some in your fields and gardens so perhaps some will make the multi-generational trip and keep up traditions.

Outdoors: 71°F/61°F Sunny
Tiny Cottage: 68°F/65°F

Daily Spark: Just remember that perfect is a goal, not a state of being. Ever approaching, never there.

Walter, do you have the boar all the time together with sows – even when they give birth? One of my sow get smelly three days after delivering piglets and they are in danger now due to boar´s activity.

    • Mostly we keep boars and sows together during the warm seasons right through farrowing. During the cold months the sows get more privacy to mimic the privacy the seek out in the margins of the pastures when they build their nests during the warm season. It is not unheard of for a sow to come back into heat right away or simply for her scents to be confusing just after birthing. If the boar is bothering the sow then separate them for now.
