Kickstarter Backers by State

Someone asked an interesting question: “Where did Kickstarter backers come from?” Specifically they were wondering in Vermont vs other states.

The chart above is from the database we got from which lists the states for backers. About 19% of the backers reside in Vermont and the other 78% came from other states or even from outside the USA (3%). States that are not listed along the right side didn’t have any backers.

Changing the analysis from a count of backers to the pledged amount actually doesn’t make a big change in how the chart looks. CA and MA switch and TX moves up just below PA. Other than that it looks very similar.

Awesum graphic Walter! I love these little tidbits of insight into things, the diving into the math and stats. I am one of the 19% the VT pie slice. Keep posting your progress. I love following your journey!

Pretty cool to see those numbers. I’d imagine it somewhat parallels your stats on website visitors? Just goes to show the power of information and the internet!

    • Interesting question… There is a ClustrMaps tool in the middle of the right hand sidebar. With a little analysis I get that California is the top state for readers with 9% followed closely by New York and Texas. Vermont is at position #14 down around 2%. Of course, adjusting to a per capita basis would dramatically change that since Vermont has a tiny population compared with the top states. Another little interesting statistic which comes out of that is that 34% of my blog’s readers are international – that’s much higher than I would have guessed.
