Skybow
Today we saw a rainbow directly upward in the sky. It looked to be an almost complete circle although the photograph fails to show the whole thing. It was not raining. Normally rainbows anchor down on the horizon. I suspect that this high rainbow has to do with the low angle sun coming through the morning mists. Perhaps ice crystals up high helped too, like a Moon dog.

Daily Spark: I’m a secondhand vegetarian. Pigs eat pasture. I eat pigs.
Looks like a sun dog to me…usually indicates a change of weather coming.
Hmm… That was my first inclination too but the ‘dogs’ are generally around the celestial body and this was up at the high point of the sky while the sun was down close to the horizon.
I’ve never seen anything like it! Hope you don’t get any fallout from Sandy. All we’ve had down here is lots of really cold wind, but clear skies.
