While On my way to Topsham…
While on my way down the mountain
I passed a woman doing counting
Surrounding her were seven sows
Each sow threw seven litters
Each litter had seven pigs
Pigs, litters, sows all on the mountain
How many was I a counting?

See if you can figure out the wrong answer too.
While you’re at it, how many:
- Dogs
- Geese
- Ducks
- Chickens
- Red Pigs
- White Pigs
do you see…
Outdoors: 34°F/30°F Partially Snowy
Tiny Cottage: 65°F/61°F
Daily Spark: Beating a dead tree is like a bump on a logarithm.
7x7x7+7= one pig walking backwards.
Nice riddle Bilbo Baggins. You count none :)
Does the woman count? One. If you didn’t count her, zero.
And all I see in the picture is a bunch of bacon walking away from me…. mmm…. bacon.
35 pigs (3 red, rest muddy), 2 geese, 2 ducks, and I can’t see the chickens or dogs.
Zero. You weren’t counting. The other person was.

Great variation on the st ives story! So there were 7 x 7 x 7 piglets + 7 sows or 350 pigs? Is that right? That also fits with your today story about counting pigs.
The St. Ives riddle was a part of what inspired me. But the answer to this riddle is zero. ‘I’ wasn’t counting – Rather the woman ‘I’ met while ‘I’ was going down the mountain was doing the counting. This is a similar twist as with the St. Ives riddle. My second source of inspiration was that when I looked at the photo I realized there was one pig, right in the middle, going the opposite direction as everyone else. Thus he is the pig who met the woman counting, he is the ‘I’, the story teller, the voice reciting this riddle – he is on his way down the mountain to Topsham.
Love the picture :-)
I love the single piglet going the wrong way…or is it that it is going the right way and everyone else is wrong? So much depends on perspective, lol.
Ah, Cynthia, you spotted the story teller!
