Cobra Whey Pipe Lifting Up
Just a funny photo – when I turn on the valve to transfer whey from the tank to the trough the 2″ pipe lifts itself up in the air looking like a hissing cobra snake ready to strike. The pigs come running hoping that chunks of cheese or butter will come out.
In the background you can see a bathtub. We still have a few bathtubs that we use for whey feeding and water but about a year ago we started using 300 gallon cattle troughs. With the bigger feeders it took a long time to fill them using the old 1″ pipes. This meant it was time to upgrade to 2″ pipes, something I had been wanting to do for a long time but hadn’t gotten to yet. The 1″ pipes clog easily in the winter when we get cream or butter. The 2″ pipes area dream, never clogging with cream although butter can slow things down on a cold day. We’ve learned to not let that in the tanks. The other big advantage of the 2″ pipes is they fill a 300 gallon trough very quickly.
