High Winds

Wow! We’ve had very high winds since Thursday. The storm took out our internet connection. This is the second time this week we’ve been out of touch. I really notice it right now because of all the work I’m doing to fight the implementation of the draft proposal for the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). Fortunately after only about 36 hours our local phone repair guys Charlie and Steve just got it working again. They said there were a lot of downed trees and lines. I send a big thanks to the two of them!

I feel fortunate because I just spoke someone in NY who also lost their internet to high winds. They mentioned that a neighbor of theirs lost a barn to the storm and the barn back side blew off hitting a horse and another horse got hit by a blown down tree. Nasty. We lost some trees but no serious damage or injuries so I’m counting my blessings.

  1. I have been watching the NAIS program developments. It seems to be an over the top kind of program. In Canada, we have a program for tracing beef from birth farm to slaughter as a result of Mad Cow. To generalize such a program to all livestock including family pets and on farm consumption is really scary. It is just another way the government can spy on the citizens adding that information to the growing integrated data bank. It will kill small scale farming.

We had that wonderful windy snowstorm here, including thunder and lightening. We had a foot of snow. Damage in Ontario, was south of here in the more urban areas.

    I enjoy your blog.
