Fractal Frost

It’s getting colder. We’re still finishing up with outdoor projects – next thing is to plastic the house windows so we don’t get beautiful fractal ice patterns like the one above that was on the bathroom window this morning. Gorgeous but a sign of the fact that it is a single pane of glass which does little to keep the warmth inside the house where I would like it to stay. The frost is also rather difficult to see through.

Again, great blog, keep it up! It’s great to see what you’re getting up to, and I must say the parallels with our farm here are completely uncanny.
Thanks for the info on chick raising. We now have some young Auracanas (1 rooster – 4 hens) and we’re anticipating some hatchlings in the future.

p.s. We’ve placed a link to your blog on our blog.
    Cheers! C

Oh that is so beautiful! It does look like a fractal. Hey, it IS! Nature’s own! Great shot, that is so cool!

Great photo – It makes me wonder what conditions favor this type of frost pattern and what favors the kind that has the long lines like I am getting on my windows each morning. I really love the look of it on the east facing windows when the sun oomes up, but I guess it means I need to move “tighten up windows” closer to the top of the never-ending to-do list.

I’m impressed with your Fuji, Walter.

Like you I had a Nikon 990, and it went dead a few months ago. I’m still hoping we’ll find a way to resurrect it because it’s the finest camera of its type that I’ve had.

What really annoys me is that everyone who I talk to says, oh, it’s just a throwaway.

I love that picture. I’m dropping huge hints to my husband that I would like a new camera. I’m hoping for 7MP. I would love to be able to take pictures like yours.

That is stunning, although I wouldn’t be to happy to see it on an inside window, either.

I’m loving your beautiful photos! It’s a dream of mine to visit New England sometime–it’s the one part of the country I’ve never been to (not counting Hawaii and Alaska, but those are dreams for another day!)

    Good luck with your winterproofing!

  8. Thanks for the link; I’ve reciprocated. I remember those patterned windows from my childhood. And from last winter!
