2009 Pumpkins

Pumpkin Returns

I planted well over two hundred pumpkins. That is all we got this year. Pretty pathetic. The oddly yellow colored ones are immature giant pumpkins. The bad news I planted all my saved seed. Now I must buy seed for next year. Pumpkin crops throughout New England failed this year. Apples are doing well. The beets and turnips did well. This emphasizes the importance of diversity.

By the way, we’ve still not had a hard frost. The frost did touch the pumpkin leaves a little a week or so ago but most of the pumpkins continue to flower and grow. Yes, I said flower. Silly plants. Flowering in October. They’re really messed up!

The yellow ones are odd looking. I wouldn't have guessed what they are. We had a good frost last night in Windsor County.

Ours did nothing. Too cold and wet early on. Hard frost in a lot of places last night-haven't checked my garden yet.

The summer squash did ok but the chickens just ate all the chard and second crop lettuce.

There's nowhere close to 2,009 pumpkins in that photo!

  4. Ah, but Jason, think of it as one of those cover composite photos where each pixel is made up of a pumpkin… :)
