Dragons on a Blue Sky
Jewel Weed is one of my favorite flowers. Admittedly I have a lot of favorites and now is the season of the dragon.
We have a lot of Jewel Weed. It’s been a very good season for it. In addition to being beautiful it’s also a medicinal plant and perhaps one of those little reasons pigs do so well on Sugar Mountain. They love Jewel Weed too.
I take breaks from my paperwork to go out and admire the Jewel Weed, Day Lilies, Chicory, Black Eyed Susans and other flowers as well as the new litters of piglets in the north home field and the south plateau and south lower fields.
I’m working on finishing up our HACCP plan – the operational sanitation procedures for the butcher shop. Hopefully those will be in the hands of the Vermont Agency of Meat Inspection next week. This past Tuesday I met for five an a half hours to go over my paperwork with the head of inspection at the state level – where we’ll get our first license to butcher. It was a very productive meeting and I got all of my questions answered.
Outdoors: 79°F/50°F Sunny
Tiny Cottage: 70°F/62°F
Daily Spark: You would not believe the amount of paperwork required for killing.
Wait, wait. You went to go speak to someone in government and got all your questions answered?
Clearly you don’t live in the same country I do. Did Vermont secede?
You hadn’t heard?
I knew it, those darned Canadians stole Vermont!
Nah, they like coming here and visiting on vacation. If they took over Vermont then they would have to be responsible for our third world nation, pay to improve our highways, medical care, etc. No, Canada doesn’t want us. The only resource we have is maple syrup and rocks and Canada as plenty of both.
I’m going to invest in Jewel Weed. I can’t go wrong with that. to heck with Canada. You go, Vermont!
I just bought some jewel weed seed to see if I can grow it here. Can’t wait to get it germinating!
