Goose & Gander Gander Gander

Goosie Goosie Gooise and Gander Gander Gander

We have nine geese, goosies and ganders combined, and now we have nine goslings as well making a total of eighteen.

They have no assigned job on the farm but make the rounds each day, checking on the other farm animals, inspecting and eating tender grasses.

Goose Stepping

The geese are not pets, a point they make most stridently. Our relationship is cordial but at a distance.

Do the geese sound alarm for anything out of the ordinary ?

Do you ever harvest geese for your table? Geese turn grass into oil!

    • We haven’t ever. They do put on quite a nice layer of fat, judging by their body condition in the fall, based just on grazing. They are forage eaters as opposed to the chickens and ducks who eat a lot of frogs, snails, snakes, mice and insects. I’ve never seen the geese go for those things. Instead they walk along mowing the pastures.
