Firewood Borer

Boring Wood
(Click for big picture)

This is a chunk of firewood from this year which I noticed had a wood borer tunnel in it. There are a number of types of beetles that tunnel through wood. Most of the three quarters cord of wood we burn a year to heat our tiny cottage is dead wood so it is more prone to have borer tunnels that if it were live wood.
