Apple Sorter

Apple Sorter

At the Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Waterbury, Vermont they have all sorts of interesting old machinery on display. Cold Hollow actually presses cider right there as you watch – it’s not being shipped in from Chile or China.

Notice the non-OSHA approved attention to fine details. This is the sort of machine that will teach you not to stick your apple pickin’ fingers where they shouldn’t be. Or else. Ah, a simpler time…

Outdoors: 40°F/25°F Misty
Tiny Cottage: 66°F/62°F

Daily Spark: Everything has consequences. Sometimes unintended. Even the most basic choices create paths that lead from them. Take separating Light from Dark. In the beginning there was nothing but by doing this simple division, this sorting yes versus no was created, truth vs false, 0 and 1, binary math, segregation, racism, war, insanity, greed and humanity. Everything flows from the littlest choices.

I have such fond memories of Cold Hollow! My family and I used to road-trip down to Vermont from Ontario back in the 90s, and Cold Hollow was always a stop for us…at least once! *LOL* My parents still go down every so often, and brought back a few of their tasty products for me. Their Chipotle Cider BBQ Sauce is the absolute best thing for chicken on the rotisserie!

  2. What a cool looking contraption! Obviously made by someone with talent. Sounds like a great place to visit. One day we will make it to Vermont. Yes we will

Were old-timey apples more bruised than those of today? That machine looks like it might not have been so gentle.
