Blue Sky Clouds
We’ve had a lot of blue skies and it looks like May will continue with that for a while. We just barely lost our field and then wood snows. Under the wood chip pile I just found snow when I went to get a scoop. The pile, although almost used up, is acting as a very good insulator.
Our butcher shop is very cool too. The interior is still refrigerator temperatures although we have the doors open and a hole out to the sky up in the coolth attic. Walking into the building you feel a strong cold blast of air coming out of the open front door. Pretty amazing when it is 70°F outdoors.
The floor of the freezer is still 31°F and the air temperature of the entire reefer section is below 41°F. That is the USDA approved temperature for meat storage and the building is maintaining it without any artificial energy inputs. This is its floating temperature without any refrigeration equipment installed, the coolth left over from winter and stored in the thermal mass of the building.
