Vacuum Bag

Easy Empty Vacuum Bag

We have a really nice hip style vacuum that we bought about 20 years ago. It serves us very well. The problem is it has a small capacity and the bags are very expensive. Our simple solution is we cut the bottom of the bag open to empty it. Then we fold it over and clip it to close it. Now the bag can be used over and over again. They sell a reusable one for $35. Too dear.

I am in the process of making this whole issue moot tho. Today we finished chipping a hole in the wall for a whole house vacuum system for our tiny cottage. That will operate with our shop style wet/dry vacuum. This gives a place to store the powerful shop vac when it’s not being used elsewhere on the farm and construction which is most of the time. It also means the noise of the vacuum is outdoors, not in the cottage. I still need to do the plumbing of the interior ducts but the wiring is complete. Very satisfying to flip the switch! That sucks!

Outdoors: 81°F/60°F Sunny, Cloudy, Quick Hard Rain
Tiny Cottage: 76°F/72°F

Good idea about the reusable bag. I think I’ll try it.

That’s more efficient than emptying it with chopsticks through the input hole like I do :)

Remembering the spacefaring you do sometimes in your cottage made me remember the suggested first space station graffiti: “Vacuum Sucks!”

Heh! Maybe we’ll try that, the fork wasn’t all that effective for emptying it through the hole either.
