Piglet Population Explosion

Sweetie with new piglets

Piglets are bursting out like buds all over the place. Our pig population shot up 25 today. Five more sows are looking like their ready to pop. They have begun nesting and lactating.

Sweetie, pictured above, is a sixteen titted sow descended from Blackie. She farrowed along the fence line in the south field so we simply wrapped some cattle panel around her next and one over with plastic bale wrap to create a quick private space and cover for her.

That is so cool! I love newborn anything and they look so cute. I could never be a farmer, I'd never be able to even eat my chickens!
Thank goodness for our farmers and those who raise our food.

It is definitely spring. We have kids coming like crazy and the geese are trying to nest. Now if our weather would act like spring. Congrats. on the healthy babies!

I love seeing the baby animals, so precious!!! The range cattle out here in Montana drop their calves in January and February, brrr. But the ranchers want to get the most growth possible before market. I'm sure the same is true, there, Walter. Glad your pigs wait a little longer for spring!! You are a good caretaker of your animals!!!!
