Food “Safety” Act H.R. 2749

Hellish 1,535°C Temperatures where bills like HR 2749 must originate

Okay, time for our regular dose of political awareness. I just wrote my Congressional representatives to oppose HR-2749 [1, 2, 3]:

As both a consumer and a farmer I oppose the “Food Safety Enhancement Act – H.R. 2749”. This bill will not make our food safer. What it will do is hurt small farmers by forcing unnecessary, complex regulations on them and it will hurt consumers by destroying their local food options. The only people who will benefit from HR-2749 is Big Ag by driving the small producers out of the market and Big Gov by gaining more control over our lives.

HR 2749 will destroy small food producers and small farms just as the government has destroyed small scale butchers and slaughter by applying the same rules and regulations necessary for safety at the mega-processors. These regulations don’t scale down. Instead the government destroys small businesses, eliminates local choices and kills innovation. Oppose HR 2749 like your dinner depends on it.

Write your representatives in the House and Senate. I wrote both because it eventually filters both ways. Contact the White House too.

So how hot are those hellish coals? Well, the bonfire got so hot we couldn’t stay within 8′ of it for more than a couple of seconds without getting burnt and frankly didn’t want to get within 30′ of it. Iron nails melted in the hottest parts. We had to wait a long time for it to burn down enough to cook on.

    Hi, Walter,

I have been one of those lurking people that decided to get in to the mix of things. I live in Grass Valley Calif. and know many people who farm and raise animals, I would rather buy local meat, pork , chicken from them, then a grocery store, so when will it ever end, the Goverment wants control of everything, I really admire your family and the way you choose to live your lives. My husband and I have a couple of acres, and raise chickens, dogs, and have a big garden, so that we can be more self sufficient. Loved the fire, its 104 here now so I love to read the temps where you are. Thanks for all of your wonderful pictures and all the information your provide.

  2. 104!? I don't envy you. Smokin'! I hope it cools off for you soon.

  3. My biggest concern about this recession/depression is that we haven't learned a thing about the damage Big ag, Big gov and Big biz do to us. Voluntary slavery.

Light a candle, grow a pig! Eat veggies with dirt on them..

Yell at the powers that be.

Thanks for the links, I sent emails to them all, using your wording because it's much better than any I can come up with.
