Isn’t this why you have a tractor? What better use can you think of? I make do with a long handled spoon. That looks a lot more satisfying :)

Wow that is a long pig I have noticed your pigs seem quite long bodied. Not like the pigs I grew up seeing that were more fat and round.

  4. David,
The pigs from your childhood may have been lard type pigs that are more short bodied and fatter with the goal of producing more lard. We breed our pigs with the goal of length as the bacon and loin where the pork chops and roasts come from are the most valuable cuts. This results in longer bodied pigs like the red boar above.

It is tricky though, we have found it is possible to breed the pigs too long and then they do not winter as well in our cold northern climate. It is a balance.

    Cheers,

That certainly IS a long pig! Reminds me of some of the strech limos I see around the city. I think we’ll see if we can do as well. Course, I don’t think we have your winters to contend w/!

  6. why of course it is! No expenses spared for the pigs!
    HA!

I hadn’t realised they could be bred too long. But of course, everything in moderation. What have you found to be a good height/length/girth ratio?
