April Snow Showers

Neighbor Red’s Maple Sap Buckets

This morning we woke up to about 10″ of snow on the ground and it continued to snow all day with a total accumulation of about 13″. April snow storms aren’t unheard of but this much this late is a little unusual. I think the last time we got this was in 1987 in April if memory serves me.

Outdoors: 38°F/22°F 5″ Snow
Farm House: 71°F/56°F two logs
Tiny Cottage: 51°F/48°F

On April 10 in 2000 we got 10″ of snow in Middlebury. (We were in China adopting our daughter at the time, but that was the word from back home.)

I can remember being a little girl. 5 or 6 years old and my parents and aunts and uncles and cousins were putting buckets over there garden plants to protect them from frost. They were making jokes about a “city fellow” who wanted to know where he could get some plants that would grow those 5 gallon buckets because he sure could use some of those. I think they said it was an Arctic blast on the news last night. I can’t think of any other reason for it to snow in April in Arkansas.

Maybe its a good thing i did start my seeds late. There still in the house in jars.

We also got dumped with snow in April of 2003, I believe. So much that school was closed for two days even though the second day was a beautiful and sunny day. This was in the Chittenden/Franklin area.
